Talking with a client this morning, I realized how distorted our self perception can be. She was discouraged with her progress and was stressing about loosing 3 pounds like it was the most important thing in the world. 3 POUNDS! Now, to some people, they may not even notice a 3 pound loose or gain for their entire lives. But, for this particular person, it meant the whole world was collapsing around them & they were suffocating.
I have felt like this a lot. Especially in the field I work in, I tend to obsess over 2 or 3 pounds, invisible flab they may or may not be on my tummy, and incessant guilt trips after eating a piece of chocolate.
In fact, today, I felt this way. I’ve been working out really hard this week (doing much better then week 2 of my journey), but I still felt off- like I was being mushed into a 5ft tall 300lb being rather then the athletic build I logically posses. This is a frequent battle, between my logical mind and my emotional self- today my emotions won over.
& then, as I was filling out workout cards for the rest of my week’s PT sessions, I overheard another trainer talk to his client after their session was over. He said something to his client, but I felt like he was speaking to me directly.
His words were: “Only allow yourself to have one negative thought today- JUST ONE. Whatever negativity comes into your mind, feel it and think it. But you’re only allowed one negative thought & then let it go.”
Oh my word, this was a gift from God! Without realizing it, this trainer not only helped his client put life into perspective, he helped me as well. It’s amazing the power words can have in this life.
So today, I am passing these words of wisdom onto you- let’s call this today’s Daily Dose of Happy:
Think only one negative thought from the moment you read this post until you lay your head down to sleep. ONLY ONE. Remember all the good in your life and cling to it- for it is fair in stature and will slip away within a blink of an eye if you are not careful. Bask in your one negative thought until you are done with it. And then be done with it. When you wake up and begin your day tomorrow, remember these words and do the same thing.
Happy Wednesday, everyone! The week is almost over I cannot believe it! (Like my positive spin?
