Yoga Challenge Week 3 and Weekend Recap

Hey, guys! How is your morning going? I just finished up some reading and morning devotionals- I usually do my devotions at night, but I have been so tired lately I fall asleep reading my Bible. So, I decided to wake up a half hour earlier this morning so that I could actually remember what I was reading. ;)

My weekend was full of fun and I want to recap with you guys. But- we have some very important things to discuss. While I did not get any yoga in last week, I did accomplish my others goal!!!! Thursday night, my friends met up at my house before going rock climbing and I told the, about Courtney’s challenge. Being the awesome friends that they are, they encouraged me to try to master The Crow! They also recorded it for proof that I was successful:) Here it is~

So, while I didn’t get to a yoga class this week, I am so excited I can kind of sort of do The Crow! Wahoo. Anyway, now lets talk about the weekend:
On Thursday, I went rock climbing!!!!
My friends and sister are awesome and planned a surprise trip to a local rock wall! I love rock climbing, ever since I took a course on it last semester. It was super fun and such a great workout.
I even made it to the top! The only thing that stunk was the bell at the top wouldn’t ring, so it was very anticlimactic.
My sister belaying Christina. This is honestly the scariest part of rock climbing because it’s like you have their life on the line! But Em was really good at it!
These are two of my best friends, Christina and Amy. They had a race to see who could climb up the fastest.
Say hello to my brother’s best friend, Dan!

It was a lot of fun, and a great arm workout- I must say! My arms felt like Jello by the time we were done. Now I only have to rock climb 56482 times before I have the perfect arms like Jennifer Aniston. ;)

Friday~
I had the opportunity to go to the Southwest American College of Sports Medicine conference this weekend! This conference consisted of professors from the area giving talks on things only dorks who love Exercise Physiology (a.k.a me) would be interested in. ;) The conference was a two day event and I got to spend time with my fellow undergrads, as well as talk with professors from other schools about Graduate Programs. Just in case you are interested in what I learned this day, here are some birds-eye-view key points I learned based upon published research studies from different professors:
  • Dr. Andrew Galpin, from CSUF, shared his doctoral dissertation study on muscle fiber types. Before this study, most everyone assumed that you were born with a certain percentage of fast twitch fibers (which are good for power exercises) and slow twitch fibers (for endurance exercises). His study proved, however, that you can train your body to change fast twitch to slow and vice versa! What?!?! This is pretty much like saying that he is Columbus and has just discovered the world was round! You can check out his study HERE. Okay, freak out over…
  • Multiple grad students and Dr. Lee Brown have recently studied the effects of assistance vertical jumps vs. resisted vertical jumps and how they effect an athlete’s performance. Check out his study HERE.
  • Dr. Andrea Becker taught an awesome lecture on the 7 key factors that make a great coach. This one I am going to have to tease you guys a bit until later this week. Sorry, but there were just so many good points in this lecture, I want to designate a whole blog post to it.

After the conference, Kevin and I went out to dinner and then spent the evening with my brother at his football game performance. It was fun but we were pooped, so we all headed home early.

Saturday was much of the same, we concluded the conference and then…..
Kevin and I bought each other iPads for Christmas!
We have both been wanting and needing iPads for school. Because of this, we decided to bite the bullet and buy them for each other for a super early Christmas present! Yes- I know, it defeats the purpose of buying the same thing for each other. We could have just bought the, for ourselves, but it was more fun this way.
So now we will be even more awesome students and super cute because we match. I’m pretty excited! Now I can blog, take notes, and read with this baby… And also not eat out for a year. Good thing I had some birthday money and am a good saver. :)
You guys know what happened on Sunday. If you don’t, then you should
. Just kiddingggg, but you can check out my day on Sunday HERE.
Just add a 4 mile run to that and a lovely birthday dinner with my mom’s side of the family!

Okay I gotta get out of here. Super busy day!
See ya~ Kay
