Good Stress is Good For You

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

I am sorry about my absence yesterday. There are 3 reasons for this: 1. I had the early shift at work and worked from 5:30AM to 2PM so, needless to say, I came home straight after and fell asleep for a bit before spending the rest of the day with Kevin 2. I wanted to wait until after I watched my favorite show in the entire universe before talking to you guys about it ;) 3. I think it is important for me to break my routine every now and then so I am trying not to post everyday- I tend to become obsessive with this type of stuff.

On Sunday, I went on an 8 mile run which was glorious! I may or may not have forgotten to take my makeup off the night before. :0

The run was pretty sweet, except I forgot to clip my toe nails before I headed out, making my run a little uncomfortable from miles 6-8.

Once I finished showering and getting ready for the day, (no- I do nothing to my hair but wash it, brush it, and wait for it to dry. It is pretty attractive) I decided to wear my compression tights under my purple jeans so my legs could recover while I spent the rest of the day shopping. This idea worked really well. Stretching in said outfit after I realized I had forgotten to do so? Not so much.

On Monday, I led a group training session and created a circuit workout for some members at the gym. I, of course had to do the workout with them because I can’t get enough of Burpees, so that was pretty much my workout for the day.

After work and a nap, I watched the first episode of The Biggest Loser! Even though that past few seasons have been a little bad, I am really excited about this season! I have always had a soft spot in my heart for childhood obesity, so I am so stoked that this season is dedicated to it! It also seems like the trainers are trying to exemplify teamwork and the real reason why all the contestants are there- to lose weight and gain their lives back! I am pretty excited, but I have to TiVo the shows because I can’t stand the dramatic commercial breaks with the operatic music!

While on my run Sunday, I thought about stress. One of my teachers last semester explained that there is good stress and bad stress that we place upon our minds and bodies. I always thought this was a silly idea because, to me, stress is always bad. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized that good stress is so necessary and a wonderful part of growth.

Bad stress is obviously not goo for your soul. Like anxiety about little things, not sleeping enough, and eating bad foods can all put stress on your body and mind and effect your life in a negative way. But not all stress is bad.

To me, good stress is something that changes you in a positive way- like exercising or learning new things. While they can be challenging, it is the challenge that makes them great. It is the challenge that changes us in the best way possible. I never ever regret bad training days once I have PRed in a race or when I ran my first half marathon. All the stress I went through got me to run 13.1 miles and made me such a stronger person in the end!

The something to think about. :)

My Question For You Is…

Do you watch The Biggest Loser? Are you excited that Jillian is back?

What kind of good stress do you have in your life? Bad stress?

See ya~ Kay

  1. I love this perspective, I have never once heard of good stress until now but I couldn’t agree more. What a mind change that can make too!

  2. To me, most stress isn’t good or bad necessarily…it’s how we react to it that makes it good or bad. And I definitely haven’t always handled it well…still working on finding better methods of stress relief…but I’ve also discovered some methods that when done properly and for the right reasons, work better than anything else…like running…reading, writing, and talking to my family, friends or bf helps too…I love your shopping outfit btw…those pants are fabulous :) And I don’t watch the Biggest Loser and Jillian Michaels kind of scares/annoys me…but her workouts are killer and I enjoy them every now and then haha

  3. I am so happy you didn’t STRESS about making sure to post yesterday. You lived your life, and didn’t make it a priority. Things come up in life, it happens!

p.s. I NEVER do anything w/ my hair either. I’m actually the worst at styling it. I just don’t get how girls can curl their hair everyday…. I kinda envy them Ha Ha.
